OIT SUCCESS STORIES
Hearing OIT success stories brings new hope for families dealing with food allergies. Is Oral Immunotherapy for you?
Oral Immunotherapy (OIT) treatment is a life changing process to embark on. The decision to start OIT is huge and it’s wise to be well informed before jumping in.
But first, if you don’t know what OIT is? Read the OIT definition below in the teal titled box.
OIT SUCCESS STORIES
To decide whether OIT is right for your family, it can be helpful to read about others who have been down the OIT path. Treating food allergies with Oral Immunotherapy will not be for everyone. While the rewards are many, there are lifestyle changes and challenges to overcome.
OIT JOURNEY
OIT is highly personalized and no two journeys are the same. Some will take longer than others. Some will have a bumpier road with setbacks. So we call it a journey. Any step towards tolerance and increasing desensitization is a step towards a safer life, thus an OIT success story.

ORAL IMMUNOTHERAPY FOR FOOD ALLERGY
The goal of therapy is to raise the threshold that may trigger a reaction and provide the allergic individual protection against accidental ingestion of the allergen. OIT is not a curative therapy and involves a long-term commitment over several months to years and possibly indefinitely. Individuals who receive OIT will continue to carry epinephrine, read labels closely, etc., and it is not expected that OIT will lead to ingestion of the allergen without limitation. (Definition from AAAAI.)
