Finding the right allergist for your child from a list of OIT providers is a critical first step towards food allergy treatment. Not only must the doctor be board-certified in allergy and immunology, but you want them to have experience with food allergy immunotherapy.
But first, if you don’t know what OIT is, read the OIT definition below in the teal titled box.
OIT PROVIDERS FOR FOOD ALLERGIES
A trusted allergy specialist will make parents more confident in the treatment itself and the OIT journey ahead. In addition, a good bedside manner with children will be invaluable during the long food challenge and updose appointments.
Equally important, make sure that the provider will be available 24/7 for any calls.
PPOIT – PRIVATE PRACTICE OIT DOCTOR
The best place to find a list of OIT doctors is within a very specific Facebook group. If you don’t have an account, this is a good time to open one.
Located within the Food Allergy Treatment Talk (FATT) Facebook group files, you can find a map of reputable, evidence-based OIT treatment locations.
Join the group, then click Files in the top menu, scroll down and look for FATT’s Map of Treatment Locations.
If you are short on funds, participating in a clinical trial is a great way to get the latest treatment and help forward science at the same time. There is no cost, and sometimes they even pay you. Ask your allergist or check the following links.
- Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy & Asthma Research – Stanford’s research and clinical trials.
- ClinicalTrials.gov – a database of privately and publicly funded clinical studies conducted around the world.
