  • Cup flour
  • ¾ Cup sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 Tablespoon vinegar
  • Cup oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 Cup water


  1. Preheat oven to 350F.

  2. Line a 12-cup muffin pan with cupcake liners.

  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.

  4. Add the wet ingredients: vinegar, oil, vanilla extract, and water. Stir until evenly combined.

  5. Spoon batter into the liners. Fill each liner 2/3 full.

  6. Bake 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. Allow to cool completely before frosting.
