WHAT IS CAROB?
Have you ever tried carob before? Carob comes from the pod of a tree in the Mediterranean. Often used as a substitute for chocolate, it’s a good source of antioxidants and rich in calcium. Since it’s caffeine free, it’s good for anytime of the day!
Carob is delicious and naturally sweet and can be used the same way you use cocoa powder. The brand I like is Chatfield’s Carob Powder. It can be mixed into drinks or baked goods. Carob mixes best when first combined with a hot liquid before adding the rest of the ingredients.
For this recipe, I used my trusty Vitamix 5200 Blender. I love how easily it chops up the ice uniformly to make a nice slush.
- 2 teaspoons carob powder
- 2 Tablespoons hot water
- 1 Tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 Cup milk alternative
- 1 Cup ice
- Mix carob powder and hot water until combined.
- Put everything in a high speed blender and blend until it has a slushy consistency.
- For the milk alternative, you can use soy milk, rice milk, hemp milk, coconut milk, or any other alternative.
